Inspiration for this Mitered Drawstring Project Bag came from the (now defunct) Designer’s Challenge forum on Ravelry. The challenge was to create a bag using mitered squares, and this was the result! I was looking for something durable, big enough to be a project bag for my knitting, and something that would use up those leftover skeins I had in my stash. This pattern uses about half-a-skein of the suggested yarn per colour, (a little more for the MC) making it the perfect project to use up leftover half-skeins of yarn!

Pattern Notes:

The bag starts with the same cast on used for toe-up socks, and increases from that to form the bottom of the bag. There are two different bottoms, one for a bag with a tapered bottom, (shown on the sample), and one for a flat bottomed bag.

The mitered squares are knit individually without seaming, picking up stitches from the work below. Then, the bag is finished in the round and eyelets are added for a twisted cord. The top border of the bag is edged with garter stitch stripes.

The yarn used for the sample is Red Heart Eco-Cotton Blend, (which is now, sadly, discontinued), shown in the colourways "Chocolate" "Denim", "Snow," and "Moss"  but any worsted or aran-weight cotton yarn should work up fine -- you could also work it in acrylic, or wool as well!   If you are looking for a close substitution, I'd suggest *Lion Brand's Re-Up Yarn, which is a similar blend of recycled cotton and recycled polyester.

This pattern is written instructions only, it does not contain charts.  This pattern also has an accessible large print option that is compatible with screen-reading software.
