This crochet beach or market bag is designed to carry whatever you need in the summer months. Worked in Leaf Stitch with a base of double crochet, it is dense enough to keep things inside the bag, while still being airy and light enough to tuck in a purse!

Perfect for carrying an extra sun hat, water bottle, or even a shawl for cooler desert nights or, as a grocery bag you can keep tucked away for when you need it.

With a relatively simple pattern repeat that uses only double crochet, this project is a great step up project for a beginner who wants to make something other than scarves and dishcloths plus, the simple pattern repeat means it’s a great portable project, too!

Pattern Notes:

This bag is crocheted in the round from the centre of the base outwards. It starts with magic ring and single crochet to form the base, then extends, using crochet increases, into a crochet lace pattern on a background of double crochet. The crochet lace is shaped by both increases and decreases, then the shoulder strap is worked flat and slip-stitched to the opposite side of the bag. Sample is shown in *Rowan Creative Linen in "Stormy" though any dk-weight cotton, linen, or acrylic would likely work up well as a substitute.

This pattern has written and charted instruction. This pattern also has an accessible large print option that is compatible with screen-reading software. This option includes only the written instruction. This pattern use US crochet terminology.

Finished Measurements:

Bag Circumference: 23 inches (58.5 cm)

Bag Depth: 15 inches (38 cm)

Strap Length: Adjustable. Sample strap worked to 18 inches(45.5 cm)

Materials Required:

300 yards/274 meters of DK weight cotton or linen yarn. Sample is knit in *Rowan Creative Linen in "Stormy"

Hooks:

• 3.75 (US F) *Crochet Hook

Notions:

• *tapestry needle
• 4 *locking stitch markers

Gauge for Pattern:

16 sts and 8 rounds = 4 inches (10 cm) square in double crochet.
